Knitting is filled with weird little abbreviations. And, sadly, our site is also. So, here are what some of the abbreviations you might hear around the site.

Our personal abbreviations:
rhca- Red Heart Crappy Acrylic. You know the stuff. It’s as cheap as dirt and just as soft. Ick.
___redhearteeew.jpg
B- Bronach (because alpaca12, aka Lily, simply can’t spell it) (you can tell this part was edited by B)
a12- Alpaca 12
melty – my knitting blog, meltyknitting(So was this part, quite obviously, as I, Lily, am author of Alpaca12

Standard Knitting Abbreviations:
(You can find what these mean on lots of others sites, but we put them up anyway because they’re very helpful)
k – knit
p – purl
k2tog – knit two together
p2tog – purl two together
ssk – slip slip knit
yo – yarn over
k1f&b – knit one from and back
m1 – make one
If you’ve never done a ssk berfore, these instructions will probably make no sense to you. Until we get some good tutorials on here, you can find helpful vids of a bunch of types of decreases and increases here.

One Response to “Knitting Lingo”

  1. Lisa Says:

I am stuck on some knitting lingo. I am making a cardigan and the pattern reads, “rep inc row once more-xxx sts.” What does xxx sts mean?

    Thanks,
    Lisa
